Honestly, how often has it happened that you were concentrating on Thundermother's music, looking at a picture of Thundermother, and lost track of time, only to be startled awake three hours later and realize you'd missed something minor important?

From time to time, right?

That won't happen again with the wonderful Thundermother DIY wall clock!

Material and Tools

Its rather simple you only need:

• Clock face and guitars - printed out on an A3 Printer
• Clock work and hands
• scissors, craft knife, ruler, and glue, optionally a micro-saw
• about 30...60 minutes time

Clock Face 

Print the PDF (page 1 or page2)out in A3 Format, I recommend the material Nevertear a.k.a. Monotex, thats thin PVC, water resistant and printable with a Laserprinter available on the big bad US online giant in multipacks or you let it print at your copyshop in the neighborhood.

Clock Work 

In principle, you can use any clockwork mechanism. I chose one with an 8 mm shaft diameter and 14 mm shaft length. And for a radio-controlled clockwork mechanism – DCF for the knowing. It can be found at the big bad US online giant using the search parameter:

Do not start the clockwork until the hands with the guitars are correctly mounted!

Assembly instructions

So you got the clockwork and the clock face, bring your tools and switch on your stereo set with Borrowed Time. 

Cut out the clock face along the white circle.

Then determine the center point using a ruler between the lightening symbols 9-3 and 12-6.

Draw a circle using the washer and cut it out with the craft knife.

Important Info to the Guitars and Hands

I made different sizes for each guitar because the second hand on my clockwork couldn't move the large guitar in a complete circle. But it worked fine with the medium-sized guitar!

The guitar-types can be arranged as desired.

So:

• Hour hand ==> large guitar
• Minute hand ==> large guitar
• Second hand ==> medium or small guitar
  

Cut out the guitars

Now cut out the guitars. I was successful with a sharp pair of scissors and a craft knife. Take your time, that lasts a bit, I would say 1..2 Thundermother songs each guitar.

I wouldn't cut out the tuners exactly as shown in the picture, as there is a high risk that they will break off at some point. It's better to cut them out a little more generously.

visual imperfection for nitpickers

Unfortunately it might be that the neck of the guitar is smaller than the clock hand. In this case you can cut out a bit of the hand to avoid that, but its optional and only a cosmetic problem.

But let's be honest, would you give God, Allah, Yahweh, Brahma, etc. such a botched watch as a gift? No? Exactly, so grab your Dremel rotary tool and sand down the hand a little.

Stick together

Now you can stick the guitars to the hands. I used normal craft glue.

Clock assembly

Place the metal bracket on the clockwork and secure it with adhesive tape to make assembly easier.

The fingers must be set exactly pointing to 12 o'clock

Make sure that the pointers do not interfere with each other and have enough space.

Attach the clock hands to the clockwork.

Please check the clockwork's manual, mine had a transport lock, a pin on the backside to be removed before inserting the battery.

Now insert the battery.

The second-hand begins to move immediately. As soon as the correct time is received the hands align automatically.
